Salt Therapy for Snoring

A blog called “Sleep and Snoring Aids” recently published a short article describing how salt therapy can be an effective treatment all-natural treatment for snoring. It makes a lot of sense — if your nasal cavity and sinuses are filled with mucus, the obstruction in your air flow may be the cause of your snoring and salt therapy/halotherapy could certainly be an effective cure.

According to the Salt Cave Peterborough web site:

Salt Therapy can also reduce snoring and activate better sleep by clearing the airway passages in the oropharyngeal region. Edema of the nasal mucosa and the oropharynx and soft palate, causing nasal obstruction and snoring, can be diminished by inhaling the salt aerosol, leading to widening of the airway passage in the nose and the tubes of the sinuses. By this, halotherapy can help with improving the sinus drainage and reducing snoring.

Whether or not salt therapy can stop your snoring of course depends on several things: blockage caused by mucus and other sinus issues? Probably. But there are many other reasons for snoring that salt therapy probably can’t help with. According to Wikipedia, snoring has a variety of causes including throat weakness, mispositioned jaw, fat gathering around the throat, tissues at the top of the airways touching each other, alcohol or drugs, and even simply sleeping on one’s back.

While it is fairly certain that salt therapy treatment will do nothing to harm you and can’t make your snoring condition any worse, your best bet is to consult with your doctor in regards to the cause of your snoring before you take any action.

Maynooth Salt Cave Opens in Ireland

The Irish Times recently published a story about the Salt Cave Climatherapy Clinic, Ireland’s first salt treatment facility which opened about six months ago in a small shopping center in Maynooth, Co Kildare. What perhaps makes this Salt Cave stand out from many of the others that have opened recently is the fact that there is no visible salt: no salt on the walls, no salt on the floor — no salt anywhere to be seen.

Until you turn on a laser. Then it becomes readily apparent that the air is filled with tiny pharmaceutical grade salt particles floating in the air.

The new facility was opened by Dr. Tamas Bakonyi who moved to Ireland and started the Salt Cave after seeing how one of their children was able to recover from a persistent cough after spending time after spending time in a salt cave on a trip back to his home country of Hungary. He believes that his salt cave will help many people with respiratory conditions including sinusitis, bronchitis, and asthma and he offers them as an alternative to antibiotics, inhalers, and over-the-counter medications which he thinks are over prescribed.

The Salt Room in Orlando operates under many of the same principles as the Salt Cave in Ireland, except in addition to the airborne salt we go one step further by filling the environment with salt — which in addition to its clinical benefits also provides a relaxing, soothing peaceful environment.

How The Salt Room Can Help Your Bronchitis

The Salt Room in Orlando, Florida has been designed to help bronchitis sufferers relieve their symptoms and feel better in a safe, peaceful environment that feels more like a spa than a high tech treatment facility.

It takes its toll on both adults and children alike.  Prescription drugs can bring temporary relief but they can’t prevent the disease from striking you again. Salt therapy as practiced at The Salt Room in Orlando is a drug free treatment that not only brings relief but prevents reoccurrence over time.

If you are suffering from acute or chronic bronchitis, salt therapy at The Salt Room will help you overcome the disease by clearing your lungs from accumulated mucus making it easier to breath. Salt therapy will also improve the functioning of your lungs. As your respiratory tract widens and clears, your coughing too subsides. Large amounts of mobilized mucus that had been blocking the bronchioles will be expelled. Experiencing salt therapy at The Salt Room in Orlando will also decrease your dependence on prescription drugs and will help your bronchitis.

Research Has Found Salt Therapy To Be an Effective Treatment for Bronchitis

Clinical studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine (2006) observe: “Inhalation of hypertonic saline produces a sustained acceleration of mucus clearance and improved lung function. Salt therapy treatment may protect the lung from insults that reduces mucus clearance and reduces lung disease”.

According to Elena C who received salt therapy treatment in a London clinic “”Having chronic bronchitis I experienced constant coughing and chest pain each morning. Getting a cold/flu turned bronchitis into a horrible condition. After 15 sessions in the Salt Cave I was coughing less, I felt clearer and my recent cold did not turn into the notorious sickness.”

The Salt Room Has High Tech Treatment Rooms Which Help Your Bronchitis

Salt therapy at The Salt Room in Orlando recreates the microclimate found in salt caves and mines in a controlled environment. The atmosphere in The Salt Room’s “halochamber”  is similar to what you are likely to find sophisticated spa. Each treatment room contains around 50 tons of natural rock salt which contains 98% sodium chloride. The halochamber is equipped with special equipment which provides a flow of clean dry air saturated with dry sodium chloride aerosol at a mass concentration varying from 1-16 mg/m3 with a particle size of 1-5 um.

A sophisticated computer embedded within the halogenerator monitors the temperature, relative humidity and mass concentration of aerosol. The size and speed of the dry sodium chloride aerosol is also carefully regulated. A stable hypoallergenic, hypobacterial environment is maintained in the therapeutic room. Compared to prescription drugs, halotherapy has very few side effects.  The only side effects reported are a slight throat tickle and skin irritation. Sometimes red patches show on your skin which disappear as treatment progresses.
